Glamorgan Wanderers 26
Carmarthe Quins 31
"All credit to the Quins, they thoroughly deserved the win. They dominated up front and no team can expect to win a game with little or poor possession. The players gave everything and came back into the game towards the end, but it was too little too late, we can have no complaints. Everyone at the club needs to pick themselves up now and get results from our remaining five league fixtures, to push as high up the table as possible." Commented Team Manager Darren Joy.
CARMARTHEN Quins had to survive a stirring comeback from Glamorgan Wanderers before booking a place in the semi-finals for a first time.
The Carmarthen Park side looked home and dry with 68 minutes gone and leading 31-12 – but two minutes later the scoreboard read 31-26.
But that was as good as it got for the Cardiff side, who failed to repeat a lone semi-final appearance of two years ago.
Quins built victory around solid set-piece play with their scrum in particular the dominant force and flanker Ellis Lloyd to the fore.
Wanderers were forced to live off scraps of possession, and until the dramatic fight-back they relied on the prodigious boot of fly-half Scott Sneddon.
Sneddon, who slotted over three first-half penalties, kept them on the radar after Quins collected a third-minute try from wing Richard Carter.
Quins only led 13-9 at the break, but kicked on during the third quarter on the strength of a try brace from impressive wing Jamie Davies together with a third Gareth Cull penalty.
And when centre Andrew Banfield broke clear, and just hit the try-line in the 63rd minute, Quins were dreaming of a Millennium Stadium final.
Wanderers looked destined to bow out of the competition in a whimper, but two tries in as many minutes changed all that.
Replacement centre Gareth Morris burst clear for a try and soon after, wing Ryan Healy released Wales under-20 flanker Josh Navidi for another.
Fly-half Sneddon, who contributed 16 points, goaled both and right on time his cross kick almost set up a try for wing Ryan Healy.
